Bus Carrying Bluffton U. Baseball Players Crashes, Killing 6

A bus carrying members of Bluffton University’s baseball team to a spring-break tournament in Florida slid off an elevated highway ramp in Atlanta early this morning, killing at least six of the 35 people on board, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Nine other people were seriously wounded, Atlanta police officials said.

The crash occurred before dawn in clear weather. The chartered bus fell from an exit overpass onto the southbound lanes of Interstate 75, landing on its side and scattering luggage across the traffic lanes.

A calendar item posted earlier on the university’s Web site said the baseball team would travel to Fort Myers for the Gene Cusic Classic tournament. The university, whose campus is located in Bluffton, Ohio, is affiliated with the Mennonite Church USA.
