Building a Road to a Diverse Society
I was born in 1954 just four months after the Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education outlawed the "separate but equal" doctrine of school segregation. That fact has shaped my life immeasurably. Howard University, Morris College, Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University (then called Atlanta University), and Tuskegee Institute are all part of my history -- black institutions where my parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were educated.
