Brown U. Offers On-Line Tutorials Instead of Lectures
An experiment allows chemistry students to pace themselves
Providence, R.I. -- People at Brown University insist that they won't replace professors with computers, but they did something close to that for a small number of chemistry students last fall.
Seventeen organic-chemistry students were the subjects in an experiment that attempted to transform the learning experience by replacing lectures with self-paced, computerized tutorials. The remainder of the 140 students in the class studied along more traditional lines.
