Brown University’s governing board has voted to not invest in eight more companies that do business in Sudan, part of the university’s effort to not offer even such indirect financial support to the African country, which is widely blamed for aiding a genocide in the Darfur region.
The eight companies, according to a university news release, are Alstom, Bharat Heavy Electricals, the Harbin Power Equipment Company, Lundin Petroleum, Nam Fatt, the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, PECD, and Schlumberger.
Brown previously excluded investment in six companies (The Chronicle, February 27): ABB Ltd., Alcatel, PetroChina, Siemens, Sinopec, and Tatneft. Brown did not announce if it had any money actually invested in the eight companies.
