British University Will Drop Professors' Web Pages That Don't Relate to Education
The University of Birmingham, in England, has announced that its professors' personal Web pages will soon be removed from the university's servers unless the professors can demonstrate that their pages are related to their research or teaching.
Some professors called the new policy overly restrictive and said it would bar many academic sites and popular Weblogs that are not directly related to university courses but that serve the larger academic community. One professor suggested that
