British Government Plans Online Vocational University
Educators and government officials in Britain are gearing up for the start this fall of the University for Industry, an online public university that will focus on vocational skills.
The higher-education minister, Baroness Tessa Blackstone, signaled the Labor government's support for the project by allocating $129-million for it in 2000-1. The financing, she says, "underlines the government's commitment to U.F.I. as a flagship initiative taking forward lifelong learning."
