Britain Encourages Gifts to Universities
Prime Minister Tony Blair of Britain announced this month the creation of a new government program that will reward universities for their fund-raising efforts by giving them $1 for every $2 they raise. The program is designed to encourage philanthropic giving to English universities, which, despite a recent increase in the amount of tuition they are allowed to charge, continue to rely on the government for most of their financing.
