Boston Pops Conductor Returns to Furman U., His Alma Mater
Greenville, S.C. -- Keith Lockhart, conductor of the Boston Pops, raised his baton at his alma mater last month.
Mr. Lockhart, a 1981 graduate of Furman University, returned to the campus to lead the Furman symphony orchestra in a concert. He became the Pops' conductor a year ago. As a student here, Mr. Lockhart played the bass clarinet in the orchestra. He spent a week preparing the ensemble of 75 students for the performance and giving the players advice about music careers.
