Boston College to Veto Students' Speakers

A new policy at Boston College allows administrators to veto speakers invited by student groups. If an invited speaker is found to hold views in opposition to Roman Catholic doctrine, university officials can force a student group to bring in a new speaker who supports the church's teachings or to cancel the event.

The new policy was issued in response to a request last year by a student group to invite an abortion-rights advocate to the campus. The group was not officially recognized
