'Boot Camp' Helps New Online Students at Boise State U.

Kersten K. Shepard endured a boot camp last year -- but not one in which she had to shave her head. She had to complete a Web-based orientation course for online students at Boise State University.

It was less onerous than most boot camps. Ms. Shepard ran through drills on software called Lotus LearningSpace. She needed the training to take an online course that would lead to the completion of her master's degree in instruction and performance technology at
