I own a book that I've read into but never really read. Still, I hang onto it. It's a 1907 edition of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, with a fire-engine-red cover out of which emerges a winsome white rabbit. The margins of the heavy, yellowing pages are populated by wispy, blue-green figures. Gaudy illustrations highlight passages from Alice's surreal sojourn, though the choice of those passages gets curiouser and curiouser
