Book Salons, Hormones, and Online Hate Mail: a Post-Retirement Conversation
Elaine Showalter and Diane Middlebrook, who are English professors, authors, and longtime friends, each made the decision to retire last year after teaching for many years at their respective universities (Ms. Showalter at Princeton, Ms. Middlebrook at Stanford). Their decisions have allowed them to pursue full-time writing careers. We asked Ms. Showalter and Ms. Middlebrook to discuss by e-mail some of the changes and adjustments they have made at this stage of their careers.
