Board Abruptly Ousts President of College of DuPage

The governing board of the College of DuPage, a community college in a suburb of Chicago, voted on Tuesday to remove the institution’s president, Sunil Chand. In a written statement, university officials said Mr. Chand and the board had arrived at a “mutually agreed upon transition.” Local newspapers, however, reported that the board had voted for his ouster after months of strained relations with the president, who had been at the helm since 2003.

Mr. Chand and the board had clashed over the pace of construction projects on the campus, according to the Chicago Tribune. And the Chicago Daily Herald reported that Mr. Chand’s abrupt departure mirrored that of his predecessor, Michael Murphy, who was removed by the board one year before his contract expired. —Paul Fain
