Blowing the Whistle on Campus Gambling
Legislation that would prohibit gambling on college athletics and other amateur sports has been hotly debated in Congress the past two years but stalled in the aftermath of September 11. Such gambling is legal in only one state, Nevada. Arizona Senator John McCain, who introduced the Amateur Sports Integrity Act in 2001, has recently said he will continue to push for legislation that would ban betting on college games, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association has lobbied vigorously
