Bioterrorism Grants Hurt Other Research, Scientists Say
Some of the nation's leading microbiologists have criticized the National Institutes of Health for financing a large expansion of research grants on bioterrorism.
The scientists argue that the trend had led to a "massive" drop in the agency's support for research on other kinds of infectious pathogens that together represent a more serious threat to public health.
