Bill Would Revamp Federal Research on Education
AT ISSUE: A new federal agency to conduct research in education
GIST: A bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives last month would create an independent agency to conduct research and evaluate U.S. Education Department programs, replacing the department's Office of Educational Research and Improvement. A sponsor of the bill, Rep. Michael N. Castle, a Delaware Republican, says the agency would evaluate the department's research with greater objectivity.
