Bill Would Give Research Credits
The Finance Committee in the U.S. Senate released a bill last week that includes $7.4-billion in tuition tax breaks and $7.1-billion in tax credits for research.
However, the bill, sponsored by Sen. Charles E. Grassley, an Iowa Republican who is the committee's chairman, faces possible challenges from both Democrats and Republicans.
The bill has a net cost of $69-billion and contains tax cuts of $78-billion over five years and $9-billion in revenue from new tax
