Big Trouble in Charm City
Community colleges are thriving nationwide, but one in Baltimore is beset by turmoil over remedial courses and governance
On an August afternoon in this blue-collar city, some 50 professors converged on the life-sciences building on the Liberty Heights campus of Baltimore City Community College. Filing into Gaare Auditorium, they passed by a banner bearing the college's slogan: "Careers Built Here."
Inside, faculty members told investigators from the Maryland Higher Education Commission of careers destroyed.
At least nine top administrators were fired or did not have their contracts renewed
