Big-Name Donors Landed by Anti-Rankings Group
Some admissions insiders think Lloyd Thacker is a hopeless idealist. But that has not stopped several prominent colleges from donating money to his latest cause.
Mr. Thacker, director of the Education Conservancy, wants to build an interactive college-search tool, a free Web site loaded with "educationally sound" information. In November he started a campaign to raise $400,000 to create a prototype.
