Big Is Better for Endowments
To the Editor:
Mark B. Schneider raises interesting questions about the "ideal" size of a college endowment ("Endowments Can Become Too Much of a Good Thing," Endowments, June 1-2). I would frame the problem a bit differently, however.
Instead of focusing on optimal endowment size, college leaders would do well to focus on priorities, financial planning, and communication. Regardless of the size of its endowment, every college should determine the optimal mix of priorities to
