Berkeley Professor Cheated for Athletes

A tenured professor at the University of California at Berkeley admitted last month that he gave bogus course credit to two football players two years ago to help them keep their athletics eligibility. In a written statement, Alex M. Saragoza confirmed that he had given Michael Ainsworth and Ronnie Davenport credit for his Chicano-studies course in the spring of 1999, making the two wide receivers eligible to play for the Bears the following fall.
