Berkeley Professor Builds an Ultra-Fast Web Portal for the Government
A University of California computer-science professor has embarked on a three-month project to build a database of all the federal government's World Wide Web pages.
The new portal, called FirstGov, will be a gift to the government from Eric A. Brewer, an associate professor of computer science at the university's Berkeley campus. Mr. Brewer is also a co-founder and chief technology officer of the Inktomi Corporation, in Foster City, Calif.
