Berkeley Joins Swiss Company in Controversial Technology-Transfer Pact
Despite objections from within and outside the institution, the University of California at Berkeley has signed a five-year, $25-million research deal with a giant Swiss biotechnology company, Novartis.
Under the agreement, Novartis will provide money to the university's department of plant and microbial biology in return for a first crack at commercializing the department's research findings.
