Berkeley Is Given Record $113-Million Gift
The University of California at Berkeley has received the largest gift in its history, $113-million, from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, which will be used to hire top faculty members for 100 new endowed positions and to attract graduate students.
The gift is a challenge grant intended to generate matches from other private donors and to total $220-million over the next seven years.
In addition to the newly endowed chairs, the money will be used to pay professors
