Berdahl Clears Up 2 Misunderstandings

To the Editor:

I wish to clear up two misunderstandings, both based on Chronicle articles, regarding my views about a request by four Members of Congress for a National Academies study of U.S. research universities. I first suggested such a study to Sen. Lamar Alexander, Republican of Tennessee, earlier this year.
