A former professor at Ivy Tech Community College’s campus in Madison, Ind., says she lost her job because she tried to organize a concert to benefit part-time instructors who work without health benefits, according to The Courier-Journal, a newspaper in nearby Louisville, Ky.
The former professor, Becky Meadows Wilson, who had been chair of the college’s liberal-arts program, recently filed a formal complaint with the college asking that she be reinstated, the newspaper said.
Ms. Wilson had planned to headline the concert herself since she has moonlighted for years as the lead singer for Foxx, a country-music band. But the college forced her to cancel the concert and then didn’t renew her contract in May, according to The Courier-Journal.
If Ms. Wilson doesn’t win her appeal, it looks as if she’ll have to sing for her supper. —Elyse Ashburn
