The man who tried to rob Blalock’s Beauty College last June (The Chronicle, June 17, 2005), but was instead captured and beaten by students armed with “curling irons, chairs, and a table leg,” was sentenced today to 25 years in jail, the Associated Press reported. The robber, Jared Gipson, had to be hospitalized after his beating, but even worse was the sentence he faced. As a habitual offender, he could have received more than 200 years in prison. But the women who had beaten him up pleaded for mercy, and the judge gave him a reduced sentence.
