Baylor U. Wins Appeal of Jury Award to a Fired Professor
A former Baylor University professor should not have won a breach-of-contract lawsuit in which he was awarded more than $150,000 in 1999, a Texas appeals court ruled last week. The decision is a victory for the university, which had argued that the jury made a mistake.
John Fox, a tenured anthropology professor who was fired in 1997, had sued the university and a former student for defamation, but after a four-week trial, the jury rejected those claims.
