Bankers Pick Small-College Leader to Serve Up Blunt Message With Lunch
As they arrived for lunch one day last month at a Ritz-Carlton in the Washington suburbs, 100 or so representatives of the nation's top student-loan companies found a small document waiting on each chair.
It was a handout from Douglas C. Bennett, president of Earlham College, containing 15 charts that illustrated some of the challenges colleges face as they try to serve low-income students.
