Gay and lesbian members of the faculty and staff at the University of Wisconsin at Madison said on Wednesday that they were thinking seriously about looking for work elsewhere now that state voters have approved a constitutional amendment that bans recognition of same-sex unions and could make it illegal for the university to grant benefits to the domestic partners of its employees, the Associated Press reported. Wisconsin is the only university in the Big Ten not to offer such benefits, and university officials have said the situation puts them at a competitive disadvantage in recruiting and retaining both professors and administrators.
