Average SAT Scores Hold Steady, While ACT Scores Slip
The average SAT scores for high-school seniors remained roughly unchanged from 2001 to 2002, with mathematics scores rising 2 points, to 516 out of 800, and verbal scores falling 2 points, to 504 out of 800, College Board officials announced last week. But the officials said that they were concerned by a lack of progress in verbal scores, which have remained relatively flat for a decade, rising only 4 points since 1992, while math scores have risen 15.
