Authors Pull Their Titles from Stanford U. Press After a Popular Editor Is Laid Off

EXEUNT THE HUMANITIES? Some authors feel so strongly about their editor that they can't imagine publishing without her.

That appears to be the case with Helen Tartar, the influential humanities editor at Stanford University Press who was laid off last month. The press's director, Geoffrey Burn, says Ms. Tartar's responsibilities have now "devolved" to the editorial director, Norris Pope, who previously acquired books in history.
