Australia Plans New Emphasis on Vocational Training
Melbourne, Australia -- Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating has confirmed that the government will emphasize vocational programs, not universities, in its postsecondary-education plans for the rest of the decade.
In a wide-ranging speech at an education conference here, Mr. Keating said that while the government had created 17 new universities in the past eight years, its record in vocational education and training was not as impressive.
