This is a joke, right?

The university of Chicago has had a long history of being a BAD neighbor, and continues to be so. As the major landowner in the community they hold tight control of local business and limit local initiatives to improve the area. They think they know best, and rarely do.

In just the last two years Zimmer's administration has closed dozens of small businesses by revoking leases, and the properties that they were in stand empty. There has been talk of develpment but no progress. Many of these businesses have long and important ties to the community, to give a notable example, the restaurant "The Dixie Kitchen" which played a huge role in the African American community and was closed earlier this year. Now they are planning to close the Pancake house where the line goes around the block on Sundays as local people head to brunch after church.

For all Zimmer's grand talk on education and research, he needs to look at the more direct effects of his negligent behavior towards the things that really count in a community -- small business and family.
