Episode 24: High Noon for Student Lenders

As the House of Representatives prepares to vote on a bill that would end bank-based student lending, lenders are pushing a counterproposal that would allow them to continue to originate and service loans. But the prospects for their plan grew dimmer last week, when the Congressional Budget Office said it would save less than the Democrat's bill.

Kelly Field, The Chronicle's chief Washington reporter, and Sara Hebel, our politics editor, spend a minute (or so) each week discussing the key higher-education debates and behind-the-scenes maneuvering taking place in the nation's capital. Look for new episodes every Tuesday.
