Auburn U. Chief Resigns; Trustees Quickly Name One of Their Own as Interim President
William F. Walker has resigned as president of Auburn University after less than two years on the job -- and a month after an accrediting association put the institution on one year's probation because of micromanagement by the Board of Trustees.
The board quickly named an interim president last week over the objections of some professors and alumni. The trustees unanimously selected Edward R. Richardson, Alabama's superintendent of education, despite requests from two nonvoting
