Attacks by Hackers Prompt Academic Supercomputers to Block Remote Access
Supercomputer centers at universities and elsewhere around the country were attacked by hackers this month, and several institutions temporarily blocked remote access to their machines.
Researchers who ordinarily connect with the supercomputers over the Internet were denied access to some of the systems for several days, as officials investigated the incidents. No systems or data were damaged, officials said.
