Athletes' Graduation Rates Are Highest Ever, NCAA Data Show

Athletes in the nation's biggest college-sports programs are graduating at the highest levels since the National Collegiate Athletic Association began calculating the rate seven years ago, according to data released last week.

The latest graduation-success rates, as the NCAA refers to its measure, show that 78 percent of all players who entered a Division I college in the academic years from 1998 to 2001 graduated within six years of enrolling. That marks an increase of one percentage
