At Fullerton College, Music Brings Math Alive
Fullerton College's Stephen L. Plett could simply present a sequence of problems involving fractions to his students. But why be dull when there's harmony in numbers?
The California community-college mathematics professor -- who is also a member of his church orchestra -- has students close their eyes and imagine a vibrating string while he strums the Beatles' "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," among other songs, on his guitar. The students are all ears.
