As the Number of Students Taking the ACT Increases, Average Scores Dip
The average score of 2008 high-school graduates who took the ACT examination dropped slightly as the number of test takers grew, ending a trend of scores gradually increasing over the last few years, according to a report to be released today by ACT Inc.
The average score dipped to 21.1, down from last year's record high of 21.2, but equal to the 2006 average. The test is scored on a scale from 1 to 36. An optional writing section is scored separately.
