As Complaints Rise, Company Ends a 'Service' Colleges Never Asked For
A California company caused consternation among campus officials with a Web service that, it said, offered colleges free leads to potential students. But a number of college officials demanded that their institutions be withdrawn from the service, citing privacy concerns.
The company, Vantage Media, ended the practice this week because of the escalating complaints from colleges that discovered they had been included in the service without their knowledge.
