Participants in last week's Rio+20 U.N. environmental conference included United Nations officials, 115 heads of state, and three Chinese students from Amherst College. The Chronicle spoke to one of them, Shane Zhao, about his role in founding China's largest youth environmental activism group, the events he helped host in Rio de Janeiro, and the future of international cooperation to fight climate change. The following is an edited version of his comments.
