Art History Can Trade Insights With the Sciences
In recent years, it has become clear that the study of art need not be the exclusive domain of humanists. Economists, sociologists, and anthropologists have applied the methods of their respective disciplines to determine how market, social, and cultural forces have affected the productivity of artists; psychologists have examined the effects of mental illness on the creative process, analyzed drafts of paintings as windows into that process, and documented the influences of the visual system
