Arkansas's Higher-Education Chief Assumes University Presidency

The University of Central Arkansas has snatched away that state's top higher-education official.

Lu Hardin, who had been the director of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education since 1997, took over as president of Central Arkansas last week, days after resigning from his state-level post.

Central Arkansas gave Mr. Hardin, who had been paid $120,000 annually as state director, a three-year contract that provides him with $190,000 a year, plus a house on the
