Arizona Abandons Restructuring Plan
A committee appointed by the Arizona Board of Regents has abandoned a far-reaching and controversial plan to redesign the state university system in favor of more conservative strategies to deal with expanding enrollment.
The group's decision ends a nine-month debate over a proposal to restructure the state's three research universities -- the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University -- into a five-college system.
