Arbitrator Rules for City Colleges of Chicago in Dispute With Adjuncts
City Colleges of Chicago, a seven-institution community-college district, has won an arbitrator's ruling on whether administrators had the right to refuse to rehire 55 adjunct emeritus professors.
The professors, who honored a picket line when full-time professors were on strike last fall, belong to Cook County College Teachers Union Local 1600, which provides their pension and health-care coverage. But they are not part of the union's collective-bargaining unit.
