Appeals Court Says U. of Texas May Block Spam

The University of Texas at Austin may bar a commercial online dating service's unsolicited e-mail messages from the campus network, a federal appeals court ruled last week.

The dating service, run by White Buffalo Ventures LLC, had challenged the university's ban, saying that it violated the company's constitutional right to freedom of speech. Texas had filtered out about 55,000 e-mail messages from a White Buffalo dating service, LonghornSingles.com, in 2003.
