Anthologies Serve a Useful Purpose
To the Editor:
As general editor of The Norton Anthology of American Literature, a target of Marjorie Perloff's ire in a recent essay, I need to correct some of her errors ("Why Big Anthologies Make Bad Textbooks," Opinion, April 16). Attacking the concept of anthologies by making this book her test case, she veers from a general critique of the principle of anthologies to an attack on one particular example
