An Uneasy Partnership
In a ceremony last month, R. Gerald Turner, president of Southern Methodist University, signed a 143-page contract to bring the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum to his campus. After the signing, a reporter asked Mr. Turner about faculty concerns that the Bush complex — in particular, an independent, conservative policy institute attached to the library — might undermine Southern Methodist's openness and academic norms.
