An Insidious Attack on Affirmative Action
Last week marked the second anniversary of Grutter v. Bollinger, in which the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the University of Michigan's use of race in law-school admissions as a legitimate way to create a diverse student body. Since then a small but vocal and well-supported coalition of organizations has pursued a campaign to undermine the court's crucial ruling. Under the banner of "individual rights," the goal of such groups has been to intimidate colleges into abandoning affirmative-action
